Anabolic Resistance

The blunted muscle-protein-synthesis response to protein and training in older adults.

Anabolic resistance is the reduced muscle-building response to a given dose of protein or training stimulus, which emerges with age. To compensate, older adults typically need 30–40 g of protein per meal (vs 20 g in younger adults) and benefit from leucine-rich sources. It is one of the primary drivers of sarcopenia.
