Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE)

The total number of calories you burn in a day, including BMR, activity, movement, and the thermic effect of food.

Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the sum of four components: BMR (60–75%), the thermic effect of food (~10%), exercise activity thermogenesis, and NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis). TDEE is the number you need to compare calorie intake against to produce a deficit (for fat loss) or surplus (for muscle gain). Our TDEE calculator estimates it using an activity multiplier applied to BMR.
