Intermittent Fasting (IF)
An eating pattern that alternates between fasting windows and eating windows — common protocols are 16:8, 18:6, and OMAD.
Intermittent Fasting is a time-based eating framework, not a diet per se. Popular schedules: 16:8 (fast 16 h, eat 8 h), 18:6, and OMAD (One Meal A Day). Controlled trials show equivalent fat loss to standard continuous deficits at matched calorie intake — IF is a scheduling tool that helps some people eat less, not a metabolic shortcut. Not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or with eating disorders.
